Get To Know Me Better

My friend, Ginger posted a "Get To Know Me Better" post over at her site. I learned some really fun things about her, and certainly some I didn't know. So, I thought I'd do the same. If you're up for it, I'd love to see this post on your blog, too! If you don't have a blog and want to play along, send me an email with your answers! :):)

ACCENT - I think I have a few accents going on at once. I was born and spent 12 years in West Virginia, and so I developed a bit of a Southern accent. Then, we moved to Baltimore, and I definitely picked up pieces of that accent. Now that I live in the Midwest, I am trying to resist the temptation to add yet another layer to my speech.

I DON'T DRINK - Beer. Ok, I used to enjoy it from time to time, but I just don't like the taste very much. Ironically, my husband brews his own beer, and is quite talented at it. I do love to cook with beer, and Tastefully Simple's Beer Bread is one of my favorites. Have you ever tried a grilled cheese made out of it? It's AMAZING!! (BTW, if anyone has a recipe that's copies TS's Beer Bread, can you send it my way? I've tried a couple and they just aren't the same!)

CHORE I HATE - Unloading the dishwasher. UGH, and UGH! I'd rather load any day of the week. I think part of the reason is that I'm only 5 feet tall, and inevitably, I can't reach at least one cabinet shelf that I need to get to. Yes, I have a trusty red stool (Leigh Ann, I'm sure you know which one I'm talking about!), but it's annoying to add yet another step to a chore you already hate!

PETS - Not a pet person at all. Now, before you think you can't be friends with me anymore, I completely understand people who love pets. I grew up in a zoo...birds, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, mice, fish, etc. You name it, we owned one. But, at this stage in my life, I'm just not up for the task of caring for a pet. Fortunately, my husband agrees...whew!

ESSENTIAL ELECTRONICS - Where to begin? My laptop has to be at the top of the list. I can tote it around my house, and can keep in contact with...well, you! Plus, I'm an internet news junkie, so I gotta keep up to date with what's happening in the world! My iPod is very important to me, too! I bop around the house to 80's music while the boys are napping, and it helps me get things accomplished. I also love our DVR. I can record my favorite shows and watch them at my leisure. Did I really say my leisure? What's that? haha

PERFUME - I wear Happy by Clinique. I love the smell (and so does my husband!) and I think it suits my personality! :)

GOLD or SILVER - Definitely silver. I don't really wear any gold at all. My husband gave me a few pieces of gold jewelry while we were dating, and I pull those out from time to time because they're so special to me, but I've come to prefer silver. Actually, I like platinum (like my wedding rings), but $500 for a pair of earrings seems a bit much, even as a splurge.

INSOMNIA - Oh my! I have had terrible insomnia issues with each of my pregnancies, including this one. I'll stare at the ceiling for hours in the middle of the night knowing that come morning, I'll be begging for the hours back. As soon as I have my babies, the insomnia ends. Of course, that's when I'm up nursing all night and can't buy a good night's sleep. Go figure!

JOB TITLE - Wife. Mommy. Housekeeper. Chef. Disciplinarian. Nose wiper. Taxi driver. Butler. Comforter. Remote Control Finder. Fight resolver. Train track builder. As any mother can testify, this list is only a sampling of my current titles.

MOST ADMIRED TRAIT - In others, I admire compassion. There is nothing more admirable in someone than a compassionate heart.

KIDS - Jack (3), Max (18 months), and "Little Bean" (hibernating for 18 weeks so far). They are the greatest blessings, and the hardest work I have ever done!

RELIGION - I don't like to think of myself as religious, but I love Jesus Christ, and the sacrifice He made for me. I love His grace which is everything to me!

SIBLINGS - Wow. I always love this question! I have 8 siblings...5 sisters, 3 brothers. Stacie, Heather, Cara, Bill, Mary Beth, Russ, Stephen, and Anna. In case you're wondering, I'm #7, in between Russ and Stephen! I LOVE being in a big family...it's so much fun (well, most of the time) LOL!

TIME I WAKE UP - My least favorite part of the day. Let's just say I LOVE my sleep! I wake up when Jack comes into my room. It's usually around 7, though he has stretched it to 7:30 lately. I think this is God's grace to me as the end of daylight savings time is near, and having to wake at 6 am is SCARY to me.

VEGETABLE I HATE - Brussel Sprouts. Ew! Maybe I've just never had them made well.

WORST HABIT - I talk too much. I'm a talker...always have been. My dad once told me that he was talking to his old law partner and giving him an update on all of us. When he got to me, his partner said, "Oh, yes...Sarah. Never heard a three-year-old talk so much!" Some things never change.

MY FAVORITE MEAL - This one is easy. It's on my blog here. I'd choose this meal over any other on earth. I encourage you to try it...it really is quite amazing!!

I'd love to "Get To Know You Better", too! If you're up for it, I'd love to pop over to your blog and find this there! :) Maybe you could find something fun to add to this list!

  2. How fun to get to know you better! I'll have to do that on my blog sometimes! And I think it's WONDERFUL that God gave you the gift of talking. Don't you ever get down on yourself for talking too much! I love that trait about you...I guess because I too enjoy talking! HA!

  8. This was fun to read. Hope to get this one soon. The time-change comment depressed me too! I have been getting up at 7 a.m. I had plans to get up at 6:30 a.m. here soon. But according to your calculations it would actually be 5:30 a.m.! with the new time change. That is too early.

So now if I wake up at 7 a.m. then I will be actually waking up at 6:00 a.m. There goes my goal of waking up early. Can you tell I'm not committed and definitely not a morning person! No excuse though.

    Thanks for sharing about yourself.

  9. The dishwasher thing is a constant source of UGH around here, too. My husband refuses to unload, but he will load. I like to unload, but not load.

It just seems to never end.

Your favorite meal is soon to become our Sunday dinner. Thanks for the recipes.

  10. Aha, yep, I know which stool you mean. I have mine by my fireplace b/c the matching sconces are on either side of the fireplace! Did you notice the papertowel holder on my counter the other day in the gooey gunk post? Or in today's post - I have one in the bathroom for TP - maybe I edited that out, not sure! Anyway! This was all about you...not me! I think I talk too much too!

I've enjoyed reading this and learning more about you! Just wished you live closer to me!!

  11. Oh and TS - love their stuff too. My sister used to sell it. But, guess what? I make my bread with Cherry pepsi! LOL

I've never come across a good recipe, but I'll let you know if I do. Do you have a copycat recipe for their Chocolate Ugly Cake?

  13. Me too! I can't stand unloading the dishwasher! I'm not as short as you, but I just don't like it.

As for beer. Ewwww, I have never been able to drink the stuff. But, I love to cook with it, as well! Funny how that works, LOL.
