What Does Daddy Do At Work?
If you ask this question to Jack, he immediately replies, "Daddy puts coins in the waterfall."
There are two fountains in the lobby of Jason's office building, and every time we visit, I give Jack pennies to throw in. Therefore, Jack has come to the conclusion that what Daddy does at work all day is sit and throw coins in the "waterfall". Can you say "Coolest Daddy Ever"?
So, you can imagine his sheer delight when I told him we were meeting Jason at his office for lunch on Monday. He squealed and jumped around the house all morning with excitement, and kept reminding me of the rules: "We only whisper at Daddy's work!"; "No running. Just walk."; "We have to obey Momma at Daddy's work." LOL! I have him trained...NOT!!
Let's just say the rules are out the window as soon as we enter the building; but, I try to use them as reminders to Jack so that some form of order can be maintained while at my husband's workplace. And, of course, so that I can look like the pregnant Mommy of two and perfectly pulled together wife who can juggle anything with poise, and has perfectly behaved children. Ugh...that nasty pride.
We had a fun lunch together and Jack played Foosball with a willing friend of Jason's while we finished lunch (yes, Jason's work has a Foosball table in the lunch area; BUT, you wouldn't be confusing it with Google. Have you seen their corporate office?)
After lunch: The waterfall. Ten pennies later and you'd be hard pressed to find a happier three year-old! After a stop at Jason's desk, and too many touched computer buttons and "No's" later, we headed home. Jack waved and said, "Bye, Daddy's work. See you soon."
These are the moments I want to remember. The experiences that sparkle and shine and are covered in glitter. The smiles and squeals that light up even the most exhausting days. The joy in the eyes of my boy who loves being in an office building because that's where Daddy is.
Yep, these are the moments.
Moments like this make you soooo happy to be a mother. Kinda cancels out the hard ones!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun time! It's like one of their first "field trips!"

Awww....I'm happy you had a good time together! Oh and if they get an air hokey table at DH office, call me up and we'll do lunch:)
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
Amber
Your son is a cutie! How fun to go to dad's work for lunch time! Like Sarah said, I love these times because it does help us through the harder ones.
ReplyDeletei wanna go play foosball and throw pennies in daddy's fountain! seriously, this sounds like such a fun little excursion - and nice memories.
ReplyDeletethank you for your kind words you left in your comment today. you lifted my spirits, which i needed.
Ahhh...to have a job where you just throw pennies in a fountain. Doesn't their perspective just make you smile? If only life were that simple.
ReplyDeleteWe used to pick up subs and eat in the van while sitting in the parking lot of my husbands work. Oh the memories. I bet my kids would say those were some great times going to dad's work.
ReplyDeleteIf you asked them what dad did at his work they wouldn't have a clue as little kids, but they would remember eating lunch in the van :)
We had occasional trips to my husbands work with the kids too. They always loved going to see Dad at work and it made his day when they came! I've enjoyed visiting you - you have a great blog. Ginger tells me you are close to me - I live in Allendale.
ReplyDeleteYou hit the nail on the head with that one.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad was a UPS driver and a couple of my most vivid memories were going to meet him on his route and getting to sit in the seat of his truck. I remember one time I found a penny in the driver's seat and he let me keep it.
I think Jack will remember those pennies and that fountain!
Sarah- Thanks for stopping by my blog. I loved this story about your office visit. I have so many great memories of going to ordinary, everyday places with my mom, and I thought they were just wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWho knew that people got paid to put pennies in a fountain? hahaha Foosball? That is too cool - no wonder he wants to visit Daddy at work!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a cute story!! How fun to be able to hang out with daddy at work!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy that you are enjoying MOPS - great crafts!
I love reading these stories!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! Btw come over to penofjen's to see the winners of the caption contest!

Wonderful! Enjoyed your post! It's so good you're writing these every day happenings down. It will definately help give perspective on those "tough Mommy days!"
ReplyDeleteP.S. My five-year-old loves fuse-ball too. He asked the other day, "Mom, do you think they'll have a golden fuse-ball table in Heaven?" Hmm.... how do you answer that one?!?!

Whoops... I guess I should learn how to spell Foosball - LOL!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYep - those moments are priceless. File it away in that big rolodex in your head!!
ReplyDeleteBtw - when we visit my hubby's work, his boss/friend always takes Mitchell to get M & M's, so that is always the first thing he's geared up to do. Forget Daddy - bring on the M & M's!!!
How adorable, Sar! I'm sure Z-van's just not the same once Jack's been there...lol! So cute :)
ReplyDeleteJay'll have to tell you some fun stories of hanging out w/ dad on one of his many routes...or did Jay not get to do that? One word...ice cream!! :)
Priceless moments, that you wouldn't trade for anything! Sounds like you all had a great time! I found you via Momma Roar's blog.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day and God Bless!
So sweet. According to my three and half year old, her daddy makes the chocolate milk at Chick-fil-a. She decided this after his office moved to a new building very close to our favorite restaurant. I love how their minds work.
ReplyDeleteWe just went to E's work yesterday and it is amazing how the girls love it. We don't go often, but they just get giddy.
ReplyDeleteNow, of course, Eric does a lot more than throwing pennies in a fountain...he reads yahoonews :) HA HA HA!
I'm convinced that Nathan thinks Zak works for Mcdonald's. Almost daily he calls him on his toy phone and puts in an order for fries, a burger, juice, and a toy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie!! I have a soft spot for little boys. I am glad you enjoy my site. Thanks for letting me know---now I know about your site too. I'll be back again!! Don't be so "quiet" next time you visit!! :)
ReplyDeleteRan across your blog and enjoyed reading it. You and I have several things in common. Loving God, love to talk, love to be alone and very happy! Stop by sometime.
ReplyDeleteGot your comment today - I'm glad you decided to come out of the lurking phase! :) I have a Jack, too, I guess you noticed... and HE thinks that his Daddy plays with the "orange car" all day at his office. He has one in his drawer for Jack to play with, especially. It's so cute, these little guys, who want to dress like daddy so they can go to work, too, and play. :)
ReplyDeleteI have one more thing to say... the whole reason I changed my blog was because I did NOT want the blank sides... and here's yours, and YOU don't have them! How did you do that??? Lori and Kate don't, either, but Lori (who is also my real life friend) says that it's too complicated to risk unless you know what you're doing. Hm. What's the deal here??
Can you tell I'm experiencing a little bloggy STRESS?! :)
Enjoyed my visit, despite the blog envy. ;)
Jen
Sounds like the coolest job
ReplyDeleteE-V-E-R.
My son loves throwing pennies in to the water fountain in the middle of the mall.
andi and jodie's favorite part of going to the mall used to be throwing pennies in the fountain. i usually tried to get a drink from starbucks before we got to the fountain because we were gonna be there a while.
