Friday Fun: Our Pumpkins

After visiting the orchard and picking pumpkins, we got in the mood to carve them! The ones that the boys picked were too small to carve, so we bought new ones and invited our friends Jenni and Dave over for a fun night of dinner and carving.

This was my first time ever carving a pumpkin! I know...crazy, huh? But, I decided to tackle our name, and well...it's ok, I suppose. I hate to admit it, but there was just a little bit of glue involved. Ouch...oh, how it pains me to type that! But, do you have any idea how hard letters are?? Ugh...they are not for novices!

BUT, then there's my husband! Do you see his amazing pirate ship? I am married to a master carver, and a seriously talented one! The three of us stood there staring at Jason's pumpkin in utter awe! Jack loves pirates, and so Jason gave him a great gift! Jack is totally amazed by it! So am I!

Have a great weekend! :)

  1. HOLEY MOLEY! You're Halloween gurus! Wow. You guys are amazing. Looks like you had fun. Maybe next year you can have some "helpers"... perhaps a 3-year old and carving instruments don't go together.

  2. Whoa! I am completely impressed. I have a hard enough time making a smiley face and some round eyes. I wouldn't even touch the letters nor the picture! I hope your pumpkins last for a while so you can enjoy your hard work.

  3. That is truly amazing. Your husband is a GREAT carving artist, and your first year at doing it too! You got me all excited to carve a pumpkin too. I think that will be our plan for Saturday night.

  4. Jason's pumpkin rocks. That is absolutely amazing.

Your name idea is really cool - love that thought. It turned out great - glue or no glue.

  5. I see no glue - they look awesome to me. I did one once that was a cross - maybe I'll have to try to do that again - I was actually amazed at myself, because I have no artistic ability and my hubby doesn't either!

    These look awesome!!!

  6. That's great. Your pumpkins look really good. And I'm in awe that it was the first time you ever carved a pumpkin, and you decided to try letters. I usually just do the basic eyes and mouth. I'm impressed.

    Fun!

  9. Whoa...these are terrific! I love the idea of doing the family name. My Hubs is a graphic arist, so we never have a "dull" pumpkin! Your hubs seems to be very talented!

  11. How did he DO that? Wow. I'm sure he's the hero of the holiday.

We haven't carved yet... I guess we will soon enough. They are hitting the pumpkin patch tomorrow, I think. Man, I hope it COOLS OFF! We had 3 days of ominous clouds... but guess what. No rain. Unbelievable.

  18. As I told you, we don't do pumpkins anymore, no talent here :)

How will your husband out do himself next year? Wow, just think how great if he practices!

Did you read LA's comment about no talent? Yeah, right!

  20. Holy mackerel!! I just about fell over when I saw that pirate ship. I called Brett in from the other room and he is VERY impressed and asked me to tell you so. I think I'll have to get him to do something like that next year (though I don't think Elizabeth will want a pirate ship!)...but Jason's is a hard act to follow, even for my artist husband. Wow!

  22. Wow!!! Your pumpkins both look amazing! At first glance, I saw Jason's and thought you added a picture from the web. It looks really professional (is there such a thing as a professional pumpkin carver?). Sarah, yours turned out great too. How fun!
