Jack's First Snow (and a recipe!)

This morning, I woke up wondering if the ground would be blanketed with snow. It wasn't, but snow is on it's way to our town! If not today, then in the next couple of days.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about snow. I suppose I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with it. It's kind of a "please just let me be able to get to the mall so that we don't all go crazy" kind of feeling, but I do love the way it creates a winter wonderland outside. But, I can tell you that there is one excited three-year old in our house who feels only one way towards snow...

So, in honor of the impending snow and our snow-loving boy, here is a video Jason made of Jack's first experience in the snow in our front yard! He was 16 months old at the time and was in total awe of it. We love this memory of him.

(There is music on this video!)

And, since a few of you asked what recipe I use for my daily cup of homemade hot chocolate (that I mentioned in my 100 Things About Me post), I thought I'd post it today. And, of course, I'm enjoying it out of my incredibly special hot chocolate mug that my best friend, Lauren, gave me for Christmas last year! She rocks! Enjoy!

"Perfectly Chocolate" Hot Cocoa
recipe from Hershey's...

2 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
dash salt
1 cup milk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix sugar, cocoa, and salt in large mug. Heat milk in microwave at HIGH 1-1 1/2 minutes or until hot. Gradually add milk to cocoa mixture; stir well. Stir in vanilla.

Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for an extra special treat!

  5. First now is always exciting, but especially when it is a childs real first snow. Very cute - I'll have to try your hot chocolate.

  6. We make the same hot chocolate and it is wonderful. It isnt odd to come to our house in the winter and see a huge pot (I double the recipe or triple it) on the stove(it stays there all day). Love it!

  8. So sweet! Oh, I that hot chocolate looks delicious! I'm going to have to try it.

  9. So have you bought the peppermint syrup yet or are you waiting to see if it's in your stocking? I'll have to try your recipe after my next grocery trip - although, I may also try to get the syrup and see hot it tastes! *Love* the video of Jack - what a fun memory!

  10. Poor little guy. Have you ever tried walking in snow up to your knees? The video is a definate keeper :o)

    Chocolate, did someone say chocolate????

Will it taste as good in a my mug?

By the way, thanks for making me so cool and teaching me how to do the bold rock!

  11. When I can actually enjoy Hot Chocolate again, I will definitely heat this up!

I am so jealous of the snow. Hope you enjoy it.

  12. So cute! I miss the snow from my 29 years in PA. We're further south now, and see very little. The hot cocoa sounds wonderful!

  13. I always loved that video! Hard to believe he used to be so small!

    Nice mug!

  14. Cute, you all are going to have so much fun this year in the snow. It gets even more fun as they get older and can build snowmen, throw snowballs, and sled! I can't wait for our first...nothing like it!

Like Bethanne, I have made hot chocolate this way on the stove, but I don't know if I have ever tried it per cup. I'll have to now!

The weather change calls for a nice hot mug of it though.

  17. Love the video! I think my favorite part is when you see him next to the snowman...they're the same size!

  18. Fun post! Gets me in the mood for fun winter activities. Great mug! What a thoughtful and personal gift from someone very special. Good job, Lauren!

  19. What an adorable little guy! I wonder if Colin will be walking before the snow comes....

I will be trying your cocoa recipe - wish I had a cute mug like that to put it in - my SL one will have to do!!

  20. What a cute video! My little boy (2 yrs) has yet to experience snow. We RARELY get snow in the San Joaquin valley. I can't wait to have my sweetie experience that.
