This Boy of Mine
Yesterday was our second trip back to Bible Study.
My third trip out alone with all three boys.
I'm happy to report that I got them dressed and out the door in a time that even Dale Earnhardt, Jr. would find impressive. And, I even remembered to close the van door on our way into church.
First stop: the potty. We quickly stop with Jack each time we enter church. Only this day, he had a very important rock in his hand that he picked up from the parking lot.
And, he dropped it. Right into the I'm-all-finished-Mommy potty. And, immediately stuck his entire arm in to retrieve it. You know, winter. Long sleeves. Soaked.
"No, no, no, no, no, Jack. You don't put your arm in the potty." Startled by my reaction, he dropped it back in.
Immediate meltdown. Of historical proportions.
So, in a moment of pure motherly insanity out of love for this child, and in the spirit of NOT taking him and his soaked right arm into his class screaming, I retrieved his rock, washed it off, and we left our morning bathhouse.
We walked into his class and Jack shouted,
"Look at my rock everybody. My mommy got it for me from the potty."
Love, y'all. Love.
Oh, Sarah, Sarah, Sarah- This is Seinfeldian. This is so darn hilarious and yet very typical motherhood. You are a great Mom for having such a soft heart. You put aside your pride and hygiene (temporarily) for the love of your son.
ReplyDeleteSMMOOOCCCHHH. What a good momma you are.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! That is a priceless story. Love it, love it - they're enough to drive you to drink if you didn't love them so much. At least, that's how I can feel sometimes. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so hilarious....at least he didn't say two times or describe the contents of the potty to all those human beings. :-) So glad you recorded this for him to read someday. Thanks for the book I got it in the mail yesterday and have already made it through 20 pages....whoo hoo.
ReplyDeleteLOL! What we don't do for our children to prevent major hysteria. This is one of those stories that will be told over and over again. It is a good thing you (us too!) can have a good laugh - or else we as moms might go crazy!
ReplyDeleteLOL - oh man...what is it with the potty?
ReplyDeleteYou were so sweet to plunge in there and get it!
We had a potty incident too - Colin stuck his hand in (also during Bible study) and when I went to pick him up afterwards, he had on a pink shirt...I guess I need to starting packing a change of clothes!
Oh the memories...
We've had quite a similar story happen here, also. Julia loves rocks and has since she was 2. They're fun and inexpensive litte joys...until they fall into the potty! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteAwww, Sar! That's just adorable...I can see his face now :) You ARE a loving mom...thanks for the laugh! It's less embarrassing than the crying (good crying, that is) at work that some of your stories evoke :)
ReplyDeleteOnly 2 days!! love you!
what a story... makes jack look even more adorable (i can just picture him with his treasure) and you, such a loving mommy. thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteOh Sarah! I'm amazed by your patient love! What a blessing you are to your babies!
ReplyDeleteLove it!!! It's totally amazing what we will do in the middle of total meltdowns.
ReplyDeleteOh, a boy's love for his rock. LOL! You're a great mom!
ReplyDeleteSorry for laughing.
ReplyDeleteI remember retrieving a nickle from the potty after Jen ate it a few days before. She thought she had a prize for life, hehe.
I am so glad you are recording all of this for you and your kids later and for us now!!!!
ReplyDeleteSusan
That's a great story! :) It reminds me of the time my little brother, in a public restroom, decided to wash his hands in a urinal... 20+ years later it is still funny! I just love how he left out the small little detail of the rock originating in his hand and falling into the toilet, it's almost like you go fishing for cool rocks in toilets... ;)
ReplyDeleteUm...so wish I couldn't relate to this. HAHAHA
ReplyDeleteThat's love man! for sure!
Don't you just love it when they have to tell everyone everything?!?!
ReplyDeleteSmiles!
What a morning! I'm glad you have it written down - you'll have to show this to him when he is older. I'm wondering what fun thing may happen next week!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea all of that occurred prior to your arrival on Wednesday! Yikes! That is so funny though!
ReplyDeleteAs you can see, I have joined the blogging world- you inspired me! Haha.
That's great. Oh, the things we do. I'm sure everyone wanted to hold his rock, didn't they? :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I got my book today! I'm off to shower and get in the bed - and read until I'm sleepy. THANK YOU again - I'll let you know when I'm ready to review.
BAGL, girl. BAGL.
ReplyDeleteThe things we do for love, huh?
Love, the only reason we would do such crazy things for those little people!
ReplyDeletebeen there; yucky!
ReplyDeleteYou are the woman! Go Sarah!
ReplyDeleteOh that happened with a ring my son had--he dropped it in the pot while we was pulling up his pants and I had to pull it out--the biggest test ever of a mother's love :)
