With Aunt Anna

My baby sister, Anna, offered to keep Lincoln for the week while we were at Disney World. She's not a baby; in fact, she's got about 8 inches on me and legs that go on forever. But, being on the tail end of the nine of us, she wears the lifelong title of "the baby".

I didn't once wonder how Anna would fare with my tiny one for the week. She's a natural mother in the truest sense of the phrase. I did, however, wonder how Lincoln would do. I'd never been away from him for more than a few hours.

The day before we left, our two families went fishing. As Anna and I sat on a hill watching our boys and their Daddies play with worms and fill a bucket full of fish, she watched Lincoln for me.

The two of them together took my breath away.

There was something so moving and powerful in seeing the one I used to nurture - nurturing my baby.

I knew in that moment.

"The baby" would be entirely content in the arms of "the baby".

  4. Aww, Sarah! What a neat post. I think that helps to reassure the rest of us moms on how you were able to leave Lincoln for a couple of days. He was in wonderful, caring hands.

  10. Lincoln is the most precious little boy and I'm sure your sister just fell in love with him being around. You know if I didn't have a job I would have been fighting to keep him instead.

I never had a sister, but hope someday my girls can enjoy sharing their families.
