Just Me, the Tarp, and the Family Grub.

I realized something the other day:

I am never alone in the car.

Like never.

Ever.

Other moms of littles? You get this, right? You're like never alone in the car. Anyone?

I mean, there are always little people filling up the seats in my rear view mirror. Squabbling. Or singing. Or dueling with imaginary light sabers.

I used to listen to the radio in the car. Back in the days when I was ALONE IN THE CAR. But, now - it's kids music. Or worship music for my wee ones to sing along with. And, I'm OK with that. I do enjoy it. Most days.

But, the other day, I went to the grocery store.

Alone.

ALONE. ALONE. ALONE.

We usually all go together. All six of us.

But, while my buddies were napping, I threw caution to the wind and went alone.

ALONE. ALONE. ALONE.

And because my husband had just picked up something rather large in the van the night before, EVEN THE SEATS WERE GONE.

It was me and the tarp. Cruisin' the hood for some eats. (My kids will be so embarrassed by that in 20 years. HAHA! Hi, buddies.)

And, I loved it. I loved it. I loved being in the car alone.

And, while I know if somehow something happened to my precious littles and there were no seats in my van filled with squabbling, singing, light saber dueling buddies, I'd be a blubbery, weeping mess wanting the noise back.

But, for the 20 minutes to and from the grocery store, I rolled down the window, listened to whatever I wanted to on the radio, and just enjoyed every minute of my time ALONE in the car.

It was so great.

So, at a stop light, I took our group picture with my phone.

Just me, the tarp, and the family grub.

I totally know what you mean... Pandora is out and blasting on those few times when I am alone in the car.

  4. It would be very lonely without the little ones. I miss my littlest one every second of every day and wish I could hear his crying sounds in our van.

  5. Ah yeah! When I go swimming once a week I get an uninterrupted 20 minutes (each way!) to listen to whatever I want. Or maybe just hear myself think! ;)

  6. @Liz - I wish you could hear his cries, too. I know how much I would miss hearing my boys back there if it was quiet. Thinking of you.
