I walked outside and found him on the porch swing with a stack of white paper and a set of colored pencils.

"Hey, bud. What are you up to?"

He didn't look up:

"Mom, my name is Jack Short, author and illustrator."

He didn't once look up as I stood there and took his picture.

He loves to write.
He loves words.
Just like his Momma.
